Our goal is to help you convert from internal combustion to electric. By teaching you how to design and build a safe, simple, reliable, and economical conversion. However, RUclips videos are only the tip of the iceberg.
From a customer: "If you're looking for information about a Do-It-Yourself EV conversion, look no further. Richard and EV4U have what you need to succeed. After purchasing an EV kit from another supplier, I was very disappointed by the lack of information and support. Hoping to fill the gaps in my knowledge, I turned to EV4U's Online EV Workshop. Bottom line, EV4U gave me the information I needed to make good choices about converting my vehicle. They provided not only general electrical education, but "how to" demonstrations and the information I needed to personalize my installation. I couldn't have completed my project as quickly, or professionally, without their help. EV4U’s Online EV Workshop was worth every penny!"

Great run down of your visit. As I’m in Brisbane Australia I’m unlikely to ever get to see this in person. Thank you.
That's awesome!
Seems like a great reminder of the Gell-Mann Amnesia effect
Nailed it. Thanks for watching.
Why did you keep the old shifter lever if all your forward / reverse selections are done via electric buttons on your dash facia ?
Thanks for watching. Check out this video for the answer to your question. ruclips.net/video/meGujxdgsI4/видео.html
Wow. A relay masterclass. Great video.
Thanks 👍
Your video comes across as long and boring but really it’s not. You went into great depth describing each system and its problems and performance for you. It’s an awesome build (less those dinette cushions, I hated them instantly, not the color though) The cushions are an easy fix though. Do consider giving the backs a slant for more comfortable seating position. Anyway, thank you for taking all that time to give true feedback on your choices of items and ideas. Your solar is the bomb! Wow, so much power at your disposal. The bed is fantastic too. The bathroom with the toilet genie is nice. I have those same window coverings, I’m not using them yet but they are unappealing to the eye with just the Velcro showing. I really like how you don’t just talk everything up. You truly did a great job on the build and also on showing it off. Thank you again.
Thank you for watching and your comments.
Thanks. I wonder how many times can you charge electric cars from such a station per day? At night the solar panels do not work. This means you won’t be able to charge it in the morning. in addition, in any case, this station needs to be maintained (for example, in northern regions where there is snow, solar panels need to be cleaned). I'm very skeptical about solar charging. charging from small wind generators can be quite viable.
Thank you for referring me to your videos that I was unaware of! Much appreciated and will find all your videos that I may have missed. THANK YOU
Like the compacted space and its orientation. Would like to see the tools used to crimp your wiring, connectors used and wiring diagrams.😊
Thank you for watching. Sounds like you need to watch a few more of our videos to see what you are asking for. Check out the following videos. ruclips.net/video/gmb-p6KW28w/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/mE2fqPfhDpw/видео.htmlsi=_8fbwdI1N2xEMJpi Just two of the almost 400 videos we have on converting from gas to electric.
Where did that Voltswagen badge come from?
I'm sorry, I have no idea.
@@ev4u Had a quick look. I think it was also an April fools joke from VW in 2021. Ashame - can't find it on the internet as a product. Looks like it's a job for a 3D printer with a good chrome finish. I think it's brilliant.
121GWAT, now that’s a license plate. Tropica is an interesting car
ruclips.net/video/-WsaK2z0G9M/видео.htmlsi=lcHJzJ6dMz87ArGr For the viewers looking for Richard’s previous video.
Great overview. I was able to zoom in as you went through it.
Great DIY build example. Food for thought. I imagine now in 2024 there might be refurbished but still quality EV batteries available to do a short range commuter DIY style conversion.
Now this is an EV conversion wiring masterclass. Well done.
Commenting to show support! Also, interested in your opinion of the e-golf, maintenance tips and tricks. I used to drive an old air cooled VW and the folks who assisted me maintaining it said it was ok to wash the engine. So, I had it cleaned with water once before going into an inspection. I was wondering, if I wanted to clean under the hood of an EV. What approach should I take? Over the years I see my current e-golf gathering sand and dust from the dirt roads I sometimes use. I’m curious if the sand and dust can potentially get in the electronics? That’s why I’d like to clean it up. Thanks!
First, thank you for watching, commenting, and being a Subscriber. In regards to your questions. Our eGolf is a 2016 with about 60,000 miles. We purchased it as a lease return in 2019, it had 9,200 miles on it. Since we have owned it I have rotated the tires, that's it. I drive on a gravel road frequently so it does get dusty/dirty under the hood. You can use air to blow out the dirt, and a damp cloth to clean larger surfaces. You can also spray a light mist of water and let it dry before driving. Appreciate your support.
Nice !!
Great breakdown of costs. Even now, years later it’s all comparative and still stacks up. How long does it take to charge? I tell people. 3 seconds. The time to plug it in. 😂
Thank you for watching. I used to tell people, "I don't know, I'm sleeping."
Did you not need the BMS because the overall pack was small and modules just in series?
EV4U has done lots of conversions over the last sixteen years, and we have never used a BMS. We've also never had a single battery issue. Check out the videos on the VW Doka that sat in the Mohave desert for eight years with no BMS. Those cells were installed in 2013 and is currently a daily driver. I have lost track of how many conversions done by others with a BMS that we have repaired over the years. This is just one example.
Good breakdown to find the issue. I wasn’t aware a BMS was optional. But I guess having one helps get extended life out of the batteries (assuming the BMS is working of course 😊)
Thank you for watching. Not a fan of BMS usage with LiFePO4 cells. We have produced videos explaining why and with sixteen years of experience, the proof is in the pudding.
Do these cells need compression?
No, but they do need to be properly contained. That was a big issue with this vehicle. Thank you for watching and being a subscriber.
What's the cost to convert a Chevy Corvair?
Lots of variables. At this time, probably $30,000 to $35,000 and up. Thanks for watching.
That's neat. Thanks
Do you get $30K for a job like that? That would make that an expensive little car for what it is, I think. Thanks for sharing it with us it is sort of neat.
Not a $30K conversion. Not even close. Thanks for watching.
Nice project and lots of work to do. I'm very curious about what you'll chose for that conversation. I will follow this new project too!
Excellent 👌
Congratulations, very well done. It looks very comfortable and practical. For the first test, everything seemed to go very well. Now it's time to improve something that is less good and enjoy it on long trips. keep us updated please.
Thank you for watching, subscribing and your comments.
You found some good workarounds but that rear battery box still seems like a PITA when you have to mess with it. Luckily you won't have to mess with it hardly ever.
When you're done you aught to give it a "chitty chitty bang bang" soundtrack along with an "exhaust and petrol" scented air freshener, just for authenticity sake 😀
This is great! I love projects like this because I'm always learning how to think and problem solve better. I find this kind of "engineering thinking" to be really interesting.
Thank you for watching and for your comments.
Why did you bypass the ignition green to the turn signal (splicing in the green and white to green)? Now the turn signals should work without the key. Could drain the battery by mistake…Is that right?
Thanks for watching. To answer your question, I don't remember. Only had the vehicle for three or four months, and that was a year and a half ago. A lot of water under the bridge since then.
I'm glad it worked well for you , I think you did good not having any more than that didn't suit you especially since you had never designed one before, apparently you did a good job planning and thinking everything out.
Thank you for watching and your comments. Appreciate it if you would subscribe.

Do you guys run a workshops or courses for DIYers who are not in the auto business?
All of our Workshops are designed for everyone, and not just the auto business.
Great explanaton ! Ever 👍
Thanks! 😃
Great video, how much would you say this could cost to be professionally done?
No idea, a lot of materials and man hours.
@@ev4u figured..thanks anyways
4 months start to finish on that sounds like you got it done fairly quickly. It's too bad the build quality of the new trailers is not good the prices I've seen were not cheap they should be able to produce a good quality product for the prices they charge. I hope everything works well for you guys. It might be a good idea to find a good used frame and build a box on it and start with that. Thanks for sharing that with us.

Wasn’t the reason the VW engineers used a nylon bushing was to not transfer the noise from the transaxle/engine into the cab. The same reason had they put rubber bushings on the shifter rod transaxle connector . Wouldn’t using a bronze bushing defeat that.
Never seemed to be an issue. Please not that the bronze bushing was replaced with a Delrin bushing about four years ago. Thank you for watching.
I gather this amazing ride has no hvac of any kind for the occupants ?
You are correct, thank you for watching.
I’m just gathering thoughts at this stage. Are there pros and cons about taking an existing setup eg motor, controller, battery from a Nissan leaf for a conversion, vs buying new kit parts?
One day I’d like to convert my ‘74 Vw bus, but can’t afford it right now. Would a motor from a Nissan leaf (2014) have enough power to drive the bus? I’m guessing it’s similar weights so could be ok.
Check out this video. ruclips.net/video/Hy4u1oMziO4/видео.html
Yes, thank you for watching.
Great series. It’s feeding my brain so I can start thinking about sensible questions.
